We Found the $10 Nail Polish Behind Selena Gomez’s Timeless Red Manicure

There were so many incredible beauty looks on the red carpet of the 2022 Critics Choice Awards on March 13—including but not limited to Rita Moreno‘s classic gray pixie haircut, Serena Williams‘s new curly lob, and Halle Berry‘s edgy undercut—but something we missed? The timeless deep-red manicure on Selena Gomez.

The vermillion shade, painted by her go-to nail artist, Tom Bachik, was just a tad darker than her true red gown. And the short, rounded square shape of the nails themselves, we have to add, is extremely trendy right now. Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, and even Rihanna have all worn similarly short nails as of late. It’s not surprising to see Gomez in a manicure of this nature, though—she’s always been partial to shorter and simpler manicures (peep this emerald green number she recently wore on another red carpet as just one example).

I know there are a million and one red nail polishes out there you could use to re-create this look. But what if I told you that you could purchase the exact one responsible for this manicure—and that it’s only $10? Bachik revealed in an Instagram post from March 14 that he used the shade Bubbles Only from Essie’s Gel Couture collection. It’s what the brand describes as a “classic burgundy crème.”

If you already own a similar nail polish color at home, have at it! To get the most out of your at-home manicure, use this tip that nail artist Betina Goldstein previously told Allure: “When applying color, start in the middle of the nail bed and work your way to the sides in thin, even layers.”
