Is that Reality Bites–era Winona Ryder? Nope, it’s Kesha. She’s taken the plunge and gone from blonde to brunette.
The “Praying” singer posted her hair transformation to Instagram over the weekend. The new brunette hairdo was styled in a layered bob with sweeping bangs, and she paired the fresh look with a nude manicure. “Haircut n nails n shit ,” she wrote on the post, which has attracted comments from fellow celebs like Betty Who (“oooh go off sis!!!”) and JoJo Fletcher (“”).

Ever the experimenter, Kesha is no stranger to changing up her hair color. She’s had black hair and red hair and, of course, rocked all kinds of wigs. But it seems as if she’s trying to embrace a more “natural” look with this latest style. In a post from January 21, she showed off her darker hair tone and thanked fans for pressuring her label to release more of her work in a caption that, honestly, is too explicit for me to retype here, so you can just read it on Insta:

In these pictures Kesha appears to be wearing little or no makeup, and it’s nice to see that she seems to be enjoying embracing her most essential self. But Kesha is far from the only star opting for a more low-maintenance color these days. Though she used to rock a vibrant two-toned style, Billie Eilish is also a brunette now. After a year of experimentation, model Gigi Hadid is back to her classic blonde.
On the other end of the spectrum, Britney Spears dyed her hair purple because she was “bored,” but given how playful Brit’s personality is, we’d actually argue that purple is in some ways a natural tone for her.
If you’re thinking of following in Kesha’s footsteps (er, hairsteps?), read this first, because going back and forth between blonde and brunette is a bit more complicated and way more expensive than Hollywood would have us believe.
