Alicia Silverstone Made a TikTok Saying ‘FU’ to a Body-Shaming Photo Caption

Alicia Silverstone has just one word for body-shamers. Actually, make that just one gesture. In a recent TikTok video, the Clueless star uses the app’s Green Screen function to show a picture of herself she found online that’s tagged “Candid Fat Photo” before popping up to flip off the camera. After flashing a pearly white smile, she disappears, her message crystal clear: Enough with these ridiculous body standards. You can watch it here.

To be clear: Fat isn’t a bad word, but it’s clear this photo isn’t about body positivity or even body neutrality. Instead, it is aimed at internet users who want to see the actor looking—gasp!—not pin-thin. Silverstone is not fat by literally any definition except maybe Hollywood’s, but also, there’s simply no need to comment on body sizes at all. How about Alicia Silverstone Wearing Blue Candid? Alicia Silverstone Outside Candid? Alicia Silverstone Minding Her Own Business Candid?

“Damn. I think I look good,” wrote Silverstone in the caption. Again, fat people look good—it’s not an either/or situation—but let’s not pretend we don’t know what whoever labeled the photo was trying to do: body-shame. And that’s not okay.

Thankfully, the actor seems to have a sense of humor about the situation, probably because she’s been dealing with this ridiculous fixation on her weight for so long. She previously made a TikTok stitching another user who pointed out the atrocious treatment she received from the tabloids in the early 2000s; yes, she was called “fatgirl” when she dared to put on a formfitting crime-fighting outfit while also having a human body.

ICYMI, the song in the first TikTok is Gayle’s “ABCDEFU,” a pop anthem about telling off an ex, and it’s been blowing up on the social media platform, where creators use it to score short videos about pretty much anything they don’t like. It’s honestly one of the best songs TikTok has ever promoted, so good choice, Alicia.
