Our Place Just Dropped a New Cast-Iron Always Pan

Whether you’re a dedicated home chef or just spend any amount of time on Instagram, you’re probably familiar with Our Place’s viral Always Pan, which is designed to replace most of your existing cookware with its do-it-all design. But the pan still hasn’t been able to match the longevity of your trusty cast-iron skillet—until now.

Today Our Place unveiled the cast-iron Always Pan, the flagship product’s first-ever update. (It’s also the brand’s most recent cookware launch since last year’s Perfect Pot.) It costs $145, the same as its predecessor, and is available in the brand’s six core colors: spice, steam, char, sage, lavender, and blue salt. The new model has the same retro-futuristic, monochromatic look, but with an enameled cast-iron surface instead of the original’s nonstick interior, plus a brand-new glass lid.

The pan also comes with a few extras, including hot grips and a wooden spatula. (This one doesn’t include a steamer basket, but it’s a small price to pay for better performance.) And unlike the original, it’s safe to use both on your stovetop and in your oven—ideal for everything from stir-frys and pastas to quiches.

The matte black base in the new Always Pan is a little different from the raw cast iron you’ve probably used in the past. According to the brand, it doesn’t need to be seasoned—the at-home process of treating a skillet with oil and heat—meaning you can start cooking with it straight out of the box.

It’s supposed to be just as durable, though: The brand even expects each pan to last generations. The launch also addresses one of the most common concerns about the original Always Pan, which is that it doesn’t hold up to consistent use.

If you want to get your hands on one, you’ll have to wait a little longer; today’s release was a limited drop, and they sold out almost instantly. (More will be available sometime in the future.) Sign up for the wait list now—then celebrate by planning your next frittata or shakshuka.
