Mahogany Blonde is The Red-Blonde Hybrid We’ve Been Waiting For

Right in time for spring, a rosy mahogany blonde color is here to break up the popular burgundy shades that we’ve been seeing this fall and winter.

Everywhere you look another celeb is ditching their signature color for a red hue—and who can blame them. The shade of the season is flooding runways and Instagram feeds alike. However, dying your hair red can feel like a big commitment, especially if you’ve never ventured into that color palette before. That’s where the newest take on red comes in.

A shade in between the ‘Blondes have more fun’ and the ‘Fire engine red’ styles, lives ‘mahogany blonde’—the upcoming color trend you’re going to want to bookmark to show your stylist later. Celebrity hair colorist and Evo Creative Director Tom Smith knows that you might want to copy the deep red hair color like Euphoria’s Barbie Ferreira has been rocking recently, but consider this warmer shade for a subtle introduction into the world of red. “If you’re not ready to commit to a true red like Kendall Jenner and Sydney Sweeney this season, mahogany blonde is a great way to try a copper shade for the first time,” he continues, “While it sits in the copper/red family, the shade is very close to blonde.”

Mahogany blonde, as described by Smith, is strawberry blonde’s earthier sister, “This shade has copper and gold elements with a touch of rose that makes it extremely pretty and unusual. Its warm/cool nature makes it flattering for many skin tones.”

Depending on the status of your current hair color, lightening or deepening strands to meet this soft warm shade shouldn’t take your stylist all day. When speaking with a professional, Smith recommends asking for a “soft rose copper,” shade and—of course—always bring a reference photo for your stylist.

“This is quite a particular shade, so if your stylist doesn’t offer a custom colored take-home conditioner—like Evo fab pro—then bank on returning to the salon after a few weeks for a gloss to refresh the delicate undertones of this shade,” says Smith
