Anne Hathaway, who played jewel thief Selina Kyle, a.k.a. Catwoman, in Christopher Nolan’s 2012 The Dark Knight Rises, says she’s thrilled for Zoë Kravitz, who plays Kyle opposite Robert Pattinson in The Batman, in theaters now.
“I haven’t been able to go to see [The Batman] yet,” the actor told Entertainment Tonight but added, “I have a friend who saw it this weekend and said not only is she phenomenal in it but how much fun it was to be in a packed movie theater and realizing that people are coming back to movies…. I am so happy for her. I haven’t had a chance to see it yet, but I look forward to that.”
Kravitz recently earned praise from another A-lister, Taylor Swift, who wrote on Instagram Stories that the High Fidelity star was “the Catwoman of dreams.”
Hathaway is currently promoting Apple TV’s upcoming WeCrashed, based on the rise and fall of WeWork founders Adam Neumann and his wife, Rebekah Neumann. In that series, she costars with Jared Leto, who played the Joker in Suicide Squad. Which is just to say that everyone goes to Gotham eventually!
Zoë Kravitz and Anne Hathaway could have been in The Dark Knight Rises together: The actor recently explained that she tried to audition for a “small part,” but the creative team wanted to go in a different direction for the character. But maybe it was all for the best, as she has a big part now, and one that she’s fully embraced, even wearing a cat-corseted dress to the premiere—complete with black cat-eye liner. And this isn’t even the first time she’s technically been Selina. Back in 2017, she provided the voice for the character in The Lego Batman Movie.
