As of February 2022, the virus has taken over our lives, with an estimated 418 million cases of infection worldwide. From essential workers to celebrities to the highest ranks of the government, it’s clear that anyone is susceptible. Here are all of the most prominent faces who have either announced that they tested positive or, sadly, lost their lives to the disease:
Queen Elizabeth II
On February 20, 2022, the palace announced that Queen Elizabeth II has tested positive for COVID-19. “Buckingham Palace confirm that The Queen has today tested positive for Covid,” the statement read, per People. “Her Majesty is experiencing mild cold-like symptoms but expects to continue light duties at Windsor over the coming week. She will continue to receive medical attention and will follow all the appropriate guidelines.”
According to People, The Queen met with her son, Prince Charles, at Windsor Castle on February 8, just two days before he tested positive for coronavirus.
Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla
Prince Charles tested positive for a second time on February 10, 2022. Four days later, his wife also tested positive, per People. Prince Charles previously contracted covid in March 2020.
BTS’ Jimin and V
On January 31, 2022, the K-Pop band’s record label Big Hit Music revealed that the Jimin was “recuperating” from surgery for acute appendicitis and had also tested positive for COVID-19.“He will be receiving a few days of inpatient treatment for COVID-19 in conjunction with post-operative care,” the statement read, per Rolling Stone. “The surgery was successful and Jimin is currently recuperating after his procedure.”
A few weeks later, Big Hit Music announced that V tested positive, with just a “mild fever and sore throat.”
Liam Payne
On January 26, 2022, Liam Payne announced he tested positive for covid on Instagram.

On August 20, Hilary Duff revealed she’s tested positive for COVID and is experiencing symptoms like loss of smell and taste and sinus pressure. “That delta… she’s a little bitch,”” Duff wrote in an Instagram Stories. “Symptoms: bad headache. No taste or smell. Sinus pressure. Brain fog. happy to be vaxxed.”
Coco Gauff
Seventeen-year-old tennis star Gauff revealed on social media July 18 that a positive COVID test forced her to withdraw from the Tokyo Olympic Games. “I am so disappointed to share the news that I have tested positive for COVID and won’t be able to play in the Olympic Games. It has always been a dream of mine to represent the USA at the Olympics, and I hope there will be many more chances for me to make this come true in the future,” she wrote. “I want to wish TEAM USA best of luck and a safe games for every Olympian and the entire Olympic family.”

An unnamed female American gymnast who was set to compete in the Tokyo Games also had to withdraw after a positive test, per CNN. The athlete, a teenager (so, not Simone Biles), tested positive for the virus on Monday, July 19, officials in Tokyo said. Thankfully the gymnast is reportedly not dealing with any symptoms.
