I’m a treadmill gal. I have one at home, and I love running. It clears my head. But I do love going to the gym. I make time for it now, whereas I used to not be able to. It’s about the physical aspect, but it’s more so about the mental wellness that going to the gym brings for me. I find balance in it: stress relief, better sleep.
I think we’re all striving to be better about health and wellness this year. What else do you do to maintain a sense of balance?
I have my routines. At home I’ll get up and have my tea in the morning, drink tons of water, and then I’ll get on the treadmill. Sometimes I’ll even put on, like, a reality TV show, and do a workout on the mat. I’m trying to get better at using the weights at the gym too. I’ve never been good at that, but I’m pushing myself to do that more now.
Let’s talk about some of your upcoming projects. You’re launching a podcast. What can we expect?
Because I’ve never done a podcast, it’s been a learning experience for me as I go, which is the fun part about it. I’m speaking to people that I want to learn more about, and hear more about their artistry and work. It’s just going to be very casual, fun conversations. I don’t want it to be deep and boring and dull.
Do you listen to podcasts a lot?
Not so much, no. [Laughs.] But I’m glad I don’t, because I don’t want to go into it with too much of a preconceived notion of what other people do. I want to do it in a way that I feel comfortable doing.
You also have a Christmas movie coming out on Netflix around the holidays, which we are excited about. Why was this the right project to jump into?
I feel like what we don’t have enough of right now is romantic comedies. And that’s exactly what it is: It’s a really fun, uplifting romantic comedy. And it’s actually really funny. When I read the script and when we started to film it, I didn’t realize how physically funny we were going to be. There’s a lot of physical comedy in it, which I really liked doing—it’s one of my favorite things to do, which I haven’t got to in a while.
I know Christmas just happened, but are you a big fan of holiday movies generally?
I put them on. I love to cook, especially during the holidays when I’m with family, so I always have them on, or Mariah Carey [music] playing. It gets you in the mood and it reminds you of family, happiness, and good times.
What will you be looking for in future acting projects?
It’s hard because I want to do the right thing. This first movie was perfect for me, because I really want to do something happy and fun and family-oriented. I like doing that. I miss seeing romantic comedies, and less of the horror [genre]. I want to keep it happy.
